Mariska Hargitay is one of the most well known women on television. If you don’t know her name, then you probably know her from her role as Olivia Benson on Law and Order SVU. Her first motion picture was in 1984 Ghoulies, where she played Donna. Mariska took a different approach when it came to becoming a star. She refused to change who she was and what she looked when it came to different roles. She told casting directors that she was her own person. She decided to hold onto her dark locks and athletic figure instead of being a blonde like they were expecting. That move ended up working for her in the end, because she landed the role in the Law and Order spin off “Law and Order SVU” in 1999. Mariska played Olivia as a tough, compassionate detective. She did her own action scenes and her own stunt work. She became the highest paid actress on television, and she won Emmy and Golden Globe awards for her performance. Mariska soon became an activist, when fans of her show who were abused would write to her. She founded a non-profit organization called “Joyful Heart Foundation” to help survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse. She is a beautiful, powerful women that has been fighting crime on television. She has showed women that you can be the most powerful women in the room.
